Racism constitutes a social problem with great impact on our society. As educators we must ask ourselves about the possible contributions we can make towards a more just and inclusive society. This article aims to be a modest contribution in this regard. In it we propose a review on the current state of biology regarding the question of human races and analyze some cognitive factors of racism that can provide clues for thinking about didactic interventions. Regarding the latter, we will present examples of cases for teaching biology anchored in the Latin American context, and we will illustrate the potential of this review with reflections from high school students. These proposals, based on metacognition, challenge us to think about approaching these topics in relation to specific contents of biology.References
