Abstract

Norms, values and believes assumed by the university Physics professors, are characterized as the cause of pedagogical thinking and therefore, of the teached knowledge. Our data is consistent with the characteristics of the physicists' professional culture shown by Becher (2001). Second, we studied the influence of another academic context - Schools of Engineering - to generate changes in the pedagogical conceptions of the Physics professors, finding a very weak influence. We conclude that a great isolation from the original academic physics group as well as some degree of an aculturation process in the other academic culture (in the Center of destination) is needed in order to revise the thoughts and actions of these university professors.
