Abstract

The features that define the area of research in didactic of sciences, especially physics, as well as their objectives and methodology constitute the subject of this paper. It starts describing the series of events and social circumstances that resulted in the formation of this research area, and some of its characteristics are defined. After that, it describes the research methodology, taking into account the more consensual ones, and presents some examples of research studies in physics education carried out by the author. It ends presenting some contributions of research in the didactic of sciences and discussing future perspectives.
