Abstract

The aim of this work is to discuss the theme water with student’s quotidian and transversed with teaching mathematics. The water thematic was introduced in the mathematics contents as a generator theme considering the student’s context. The concrete reality was used to create problemsituations in order to promote the students to subjects and researchers of learning-teaching together with teacher. Based on the philosophical foundations of pedagogy of Paulo Freire, in this pedagogical practice the participant research was used as methodological approach. The data collected, facts and discourses that have emerged during the pedagogical practical, were analyzed qualitatively. The research was developed in a public school in the periphery Complexo da Maré in the City of Rio de Janeiro with students of the 9th elementary school. The results show the practice adopted as a facilitator of meaningful learning mathematical content and the enlargement of the concept of water, promoted by overcoming innocent consciousness about the theme, towards a process of awareness, supported by bases that integrate social, political, economic and cultural aspects.
