Processes and forms of knowledge involved in practical activities: a review of the literature and implications for research
Keywords:
Practical Work, Science Education, Problem Solving.Abstract
In this work, we review the literature on the processes and forms of knowledge mobilized by students when doing an investigative activity. We examined the literature and organized the review in accordance to the SDDS model. It proposes that conducting an investigation can be seen as a process of problem solving involving three sub-processes: hypotheses formulation, experimentation, and analysis of evidence. We also discuss the nature of, and the relationships between, conceptual and procedural knowledge mobilized in the execution of practical activities. Finally, we consider methodological implications for research in this area.Downloads
