In this paper we shall analyze the interaction between a Brazilian high school chemistry teacher and her students, emphasizing the dynamic of interactions and the building and maintenance of intersubjectivity states. Specifically, we shall examine the discourse in the classroom and explore some implications of it to understand the role of intersubjectivity in instructional discourse. The discursive episodes are meant to show how intersubjectivity negotiations are influential for the students' engagement in academic tasks.Downloads
